Dear Butner Public School Family,
I'm honored that the Butner Board of Education has selected me to become the next Superintendent of Butner Schools. I look forward to meeting the Butner community, our students, families, and the team of professionals that work tirelessly to provide a quality education for our students. I grew up in a school community that closely resembles Butner. I grew up in the small Eastern Texas Panhandle town of Wheeler, Texas. I attended Wheeler Christian Academy, which consisted of around 200 students. After graduation, I attended Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Oklahoma. This is my 16th year in education and my 7th year as a superintendent. My educational career consisted of teaching third and fifth grades, as well as junior high science and history. My. educational philosophy has been developed through my experiences that range from K8 through 3A districts. One thing remains constant in all of these positions. Educators are in the business of providing young adults an opportunity to make a difference in their lives and communities. On a more personal note, I have been blessed many times in my life, and some of those biggest blessings have involved my family. I have been married to my wife, Retta, 18 years this July. She will begin her new position at the Pontotoc County Courthouse as a court reporter, and we will live in the Ada area. We have two boys. Chandier is 22 and Brock is 16.
As a family, our vacations have been centered around major league baseball stadiums, big cities, mountains and beaches. Life has never been dull, and most of the time extremely busy. When I do have spare time, my hobbies include reading, listening to music (James Taylor or George Strait are my favorite singers/storytellers) or relaxing on the back porch. Next year will be here before we know it, and I am excited to get started. As every turn of the school calendar, opportunities will arise for the professionals at Butner that will bring challenges but ample opportunities to achieve desired student outcomes and professional goals set by our educators. I look forward to celebrating these achievements!
